Sheep fire unlikely to reach Wrightwood and Mountain High Resort

Good news for residents of Wrightwood and fans of Mountain High Resort.  The Sheep fire stalled on its deadly march last night.  The 4000 residents of Wrightwood were under a mandatory evacuation over the weekend.  As of this morning, the fire is 20% contained.  The fire remains at 7000 acres burned.  With more favorable weather conditions today, especially lower wind speeds, fire fighters are optimistic they can keep the fire from homes in Wrightwood.

Bulldozers have plowed miles of fire lines a quarter-mile east of the ski town.  While still remaining cautious and confident that the fire will be contained shortly, some news organizations have already claimed that Wrightwood is saved.  We’ll wait until we hear that from the lips of the Forest Service, but yes, the news is good.

Lytle Creek is under voluntary evacuation, while the mandatory evacuation of Wrightwood will be reconsidered sometime today.
