From blowing flames to blowing snow: Wrightwood’s Mountain High Resort could open this week

Tuesday at noon, evacuation orders caused by the Sheep fire were lifted for Wrightwood.  Firebreaks a quarter-mile east of the town are holding strong, and the weather (cool, calm winds) has been cooperating.

Currently 32% of the Sheep fire is contained.  7,128 acres have burned.  Containment is expected by Thursday evening.

Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood switched roles on Sunday night.  After serving as water supplier for firefighting crews battling the Sheep fire, Mountain High fired up the snow guns.  It’s the earliest time for making snow in the resort’s history.  This off season, Mountain High spent 500k on snow-making improvements.  The results?  John McColly, director of marketing, says the resort might open this week!
