Rip Van Winkle finds permanent resting spot atop Hunter Mountain

Rip Van Winkle fell asleep for 20 years up in the Catskills Mountains.  He awoke and his wife had long since passed.  Bitter Man is looking for his pillow…

It hasn’t taken 20 years, but close to it for the completion of the Rip Van Winkle sculpture atop the summit of New York’s Hunter Mountain ski area.  After 14 years, the life-sized work of art created out of local bluestone will be unveiled at a ceremony atop the ski area on Monday, October 12.

The process has unfolded over the years, with facial wrinkles added one year, hair and brows the next.  Rip Van Winkle slept 20 years and his sculpture atop Hunter Mountain took 14.  And you’re in a hurry?
