Annual Craggin’ Classic climbing festival in Salt Lake City this weekend

Seriously, Salt Lake City is the place to be. Yes, there’s the skiing. But this weekend, the American Alpine Club is hosting their ‘Craggin’ Classic’ where climbers from around the country will convene for climbing (of course), mountain films, yoga and beer.

The action kicks off Friday night with wine tasting and tapped kegs at Brighton. (Pre-registration is closed, but walk-ins are welcome.) Saturday is extremely happening, with clinics from the best pros. Climbers on hand will include Steve House, Cedar Wright, Caroline George, Jasmin Caton, Kate Rutherford, Mikey Shaefer, Kitty Calhoun, Nancy Feagin and Jim Donini. The class list is as awesome and eclectic as the pro list:

•Sport Climbing for Boulderers

•Trad Climbing for Sport Climbers

•Bouldering for Weaklings
(Yes)

•Ice Climbing for Climbers Who Are Not Old Or Out Of Shape

•Donini’s Old Man’s Guide To Climbing 5.12 (unofficially sponsored by the AARP)

•Locals Only Tours led by an all-star cast of SLC underground super locals who know every nook, cranny and crimp in the Wasatch

The climbing sessions will be followed by a yoga class and then a raving party with live music, sponsored by local brand Black Diamond.

On Sunday, it’s still going on (or off), and enthusiasts can enjoy mountain films during special showings at Brewvies. (For those not in the know, Brewvies is a decidedly un-Mormon Salt Lake City staple. Just as it sounds, you can drink beer while watching movies.)
