The World Snowshoe Invitational will take place at Mount Seymour on Saturday, Feb. 27 – one day before the 2010 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies in Vancouver. Snowshoe racing is similar to Women’s ski jumping and Slopestyle skiing in that they are trying to get into the next Olympic games. This is certainly a step in the right direction.

“In order for snowshoe racing to become an official Olympic sport, it requires major sponsorship and media involvement,” Mark Elmore, sports director for the USSSA said in a recent interview with Snowshoe Magazine. “Plus, at least 20 countries would need to have their national Olympic organizations formally recognize a national governing body for the sport within their individual countries.”

Additionally, the Yeti Canadian Showshoe Series will host a major showshoe race on Saturday, January 30 at Mount Washington Resort, British Columbia which should further shine a bright light on the sport in great proximity to the Olympic Games.

For the last decade, Snowshoe sales have had consistant double digit growth.
