For those who follow The Ski Channel news, it is no surprise to find us reporting on the latest in wingsuit base jumping.  Our friends participate in this phenomenal sport, maybe your friends do too.  Better yet, maybe you’ve experienced this life-altering adventure.

CBS has finally caught up with The Ski Channel.  Tonight on “60 Minutes”, Steve Kroft reports on wingsuit base jumping.  They’ve rightfully deemed this segment “The Birdmen”.  Immediately, my thoughts travel to a tender place.  Shane McConkey.  Sherry and Ayla McConkey.  The list quickly grows – from skiers, family, friends, Squaw Valley, the many fans of the man and his legacy.  I even take a moment for one of The Ski Channel’s own, Zeke Piestrup.  Undoubtedly, you’ve read his heartfelt tributes to Mr. McConkey these past months.  As much as I want to, I’ll never forget the moment Zeke came into my office on March 26th…there’s no need to state the obvious.  Many of us had that same initial moment, that particular Thursday.

Tonight, “The Birdmen” features JT Holmes.  The Squaw native has skied his way through over a dozen films with Matchstick Productions and is a wingsuit base jumper.  Tonight, JT Holmes is interviewed by Steve Kroft, but missing one key player.  When “60 Minutes” originally set up this interview, Steve Kroft was supposed to be sitting across from JT Holmes and Shane McConkey.  Tonight, we are reminded of the meticulous details that go into prepping wingsuit base jumping.  Tonight, we celebrate JT Holmes and his friends who cherish their shared moment with nature.  Tonight, we remember Shane McConkey.
