On December 12th, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area will be host to the Island Extravaganza. Island Extravaganza? What does an island themed extravaganza have to do with skiing? Well, my perceptive friend, the Island Extravaganza is put on by the nonprofit organization, Disabled Sports Eastern Sierra. They raise money for disabled adults and children to have the opportunity to get involved in athletics, including skiing and snowboarding. The money also goes to Wounded Warriors, a group servicing wounded veterans.

Last year, the Island Extravaganza brought in $60,000, and this year, they’re hoping for at least $100,000. Christine Souza is the Associate Director of Disabled Sports. She explains, “we’re working with (event producer) Relevé Unlimited to make sure that this is the most stunning Island Extravaganza that anyone has seen. For every $75 we raise, we can give an adaptive ski or snowboard lesson to a student. We need everyone’s help so that we can continue to provide these programs for those who need them most.”

Want more info? Or better yet, want to buy an Island Extravaganza raffle ticket? Visit www.disabledsportseasternsierra.org. Come on, not only is it a great cause, but it means you can be hanging out in Mammoth in 2 short months…
