Take two coaches who are Matchstick Productions veterans, add in the B.C. wonder that is Revelstoke, and you have one incredible freeride opportunity for skiers aged 12 to 18.  It’s a big mountain ski university.  Pillow classes are now in session!

It’s called the Revelstoke Mountain Freeriders club.  The two celebrity guest coaches are Chris Rubens and Eric Hjorleifson.  Freeride coach Izzy Lynch waxes, “Both these coaches ski for Matchstick Productions and have plenty of credentials to their names.  Hjorleifson was recently nominated one of the top five free skiers in the world by Powder Magazine.”

Lessons will be on weekends, starting December 12th until April 4th.  The all-day sessions will center on skiing powder, hitting natural features, how to choose a line, and scoping landings and take-offs.  All while developing an individual style.

There are three options from which to choose: a 15-day basic program + 2 days of avalanche training; a competitive program of seven additional days and the opportunity to enter junior big mountain ski comps in Red Mountain, Fernie, and Lake Louise; and a truncated 10-day program.

“Enjoyment of the mountains is the main focus,” says Lynch.  “But it can also be seen as a competitive program with a non-competitive edge. We hope to be able to go to the junior big mountain competitions – and to see some of Revelstoke’s local kids take away the prizes.”
