Rejoice Canadian skiers and snowboarders! Your winter season is about to begin. A final push on early season snowmaking is underway at Calgary Olympic Park and starting this weekend, the ski area will become the first ski area to open in Canada for the 2009-2010 season.

It’s a far cry from last winter when the ski area didn’t open its doors until December. Ski officials haven’t announced which slopes or runs will be open, but three of the ski area’s four lifts will be moving.

The ski area’s rental shop, retail facility and food court will also be open for business. Ski school will be available for lessons as well.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Night skiing will be available for skiing and riding starting on Monday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening next week.
