Reno-Tahoe not among three cities bidding for 2018 Winter Olympics

Just three cities submitted bids before the Friday deadline to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.  Munich (Germany), Annecy (France), and Pyeongchang (South Korea) make up the smallest bidding field in three decades.

Let the schmoozing begin!  The host city will be announced in Durban, South Africa, on July 6, 2011.  Not to disparage the other two beautiful cities, but I’d have to go with Annecy.  Sixty percent of all World Cup events held in France are hosted by Annecy.  As for its beauty, words are worthless as compared to the photo (left).  It does not get more beautiful, and the array of ski resorts within 20 miles of Annecy is astounding, including the St. Moritz of France, Megeve.

Perhaps the seventh time will be the charm?  A victim of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s focus on Chicago’s summer Olympics bid, Reno-Tahoe decided not to submit a bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics.  Focus now shifts to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
