Unfortunately, the “North Pole” in this case does not mean a mountain locale with lots of fresh powder for skiers and boarders.   A new lawsuit filed in New York alleges that convicted financier Bernie Madoff led a cocaine-fueled work environment, and that his office was known by insiders as the “North Pole” in reference to the excessive amount of cocaine use.  In addition to the drug allegations, the lawsuit says that Madoff’s company parties included topless entertainers and employees had affairs in places like Madoff’s own office.  Former investors of Madoff filed the suit, and they are seeking unspecified punitive damages.  Madoff, who pleaded guilty in March to fraud, perjury, and money laundering, is currently serving a 150-year prison term in Raleigh, North Carolina.
