Snow will continue to be made in Lake Tahoe ski area, after some doubts

Due to budget cuts in Nevada, residents weren’t sure if the Southern Nevada Water Authority board members would approve the continuation of the Desert Research Institute’s cloud seeding program, which creates more snow for the Lake Tahoe ski area. Well, this week, the board members approved funding to continue the program.

From the Tahoe Daily Tribune: “For decades, Desert Research Institute operated snow generators in northeastern Nevada and around Lake Tahoe, but the program was due to be mothballed this winter due to cuts in the state’s higher education system budget. Arlen Huggins, an associate research scientist for the institute in Reno, said cloud seeding also will continue in the Tahoe area this winter, with funding from the Truckee Meadows Water Authority.”

Woohoo! No recession gonna keep the skiers of the world down, no siree!
