Lindsey Vonn adds a Golden Ski to her trophy mantel

The world continues to wrap its arms around Lindsey Vonn.  The latest big hug came from over 150 international journalists Thursday night in Soelden.  The beyond huggable Vonn received the “Skier d’Or 2009,” or if you skipped out on French class in your youth, “Golden Ski.”  It’s an annual award given by the International Association of Ski Journalists (AIJS).

“I’m really honored to receive this award,” Vonn said. “Journalists are an important part of telling the story of our sport. So, to receive an award like this from the International Association of Ski Journalists makes it even more meaningful.”

Vonn gives props to the journalists.  Hear that conspiracy theory guy?

Not since Phil Mahre over 25 years ago has an American won the Golden Ski award.  Vonn is also just the 10th woman honored since the award was first given in 1963.

“There are not many women in the history of our sport who have been tougher and more demanding with themselves than Lindsey Vonn, who is truly an international star appreciated in all ski countries,” said Patrick Lang, Vice-President of the AIJS. “The fact that she also dedicated much time learning to speak German in order to communicate with her numerous fans in Europe and the German-speaking reporters is another example of her permanent search for perfection and her professionalism. We all wish her another successful season and as much fun as possible on the slopes and in her private life.”

In an earlier press conference with Head skis and Audi, Vonn busted that perfect German, and the Austrian fans were touched.  Lindsey Vonn rules, how do you say that in German?
