SOELDEN, Austria – Finlands Tanja Poutiainen took the ski seasons first crown on the Rettenbach Glacier today barely squeezing by Austia’s Kathrin Zettel by .01 seconds in the Giant Slalom.  This is Poutiainen’s 9th career win.  Denise Karbon who started out on top after the first run finished third.  Lindsey Vonn looking trim and beautiful in her white racing gear came in 9th.

Poutiainen had finished 2nd last year and was definately a favorite today.  She took 2nd to Julia Mancuso who crashed today in the 2006 Turin Games. Nicole Hosp, fell and had to be airlifted to a hospital.  Those on the ground speculated that she could have a serious knee injury.
