Amen to Criterion!  Robert Redford’s cult-classic “Downhill Racer” is getting the Criterion treatment, which involves re-digitizing the film after buffing out the original print.  This is one of Redford’s first starring appearances, and the character study prophecized the coming of Bill Johnson, the first American to win Olympic gold in alpine ski racing.  The DVD rerelease happens on November 17 and includes interviews with the filmmakers, audio excerpts, and a booklet with an essay on the film.
