Kitzbuhel has earliest opening in 80 year history as the Hahnenkamm downhill awaits

Kitzbühel, Austria’s most famous ski resort and home to the world’s most famous ski race, had its earliest opening ever.  This past Saturday, the resort opened following good early season snow and a period of low temps for making snow.

It’s never too early to ponder the next installment of the Hahnenkamm, the scariest, the deadliest (and any other “est” you want to add) ski race on planet earth.  This season, the gladiators of skiing take to the famed Streif on January 23.  Will Bode Miller be there? He was non-committal when I asked him at his press conference.

Kitzbühel is open and the Hahnenkamm downhill nears.  Erik Fischer, time to get nervous.
