Ski in Bulgaria, but watch out for the heroin in the sauerkraut

Bulgaria is a really neat place to be. It’s gorgeous, full of culture and rich history..but most importantly, great skiing. Between A+ ski resorts like Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo, and Chepelare, it’s pretty easy to have an incredible ski vacation in Bulgaria.

But, when you go there, don’t eat the sauerkraut. There might be heroin in it. I’m kidding, but I’m not. Bulgarian prosecutors said today that they confiscated 110 pounds of heroin being transported in cans of sauerkraut. This all went down in the city of Plovdiv, where eight people were arrested. 110 pounds! Apparently heroin use is on the rise in Bulgaria. The country is right in the middle of the main drug-trafficking route from Asia to Western Europe. Pounds upon pounds of heroin are confiscated at the country’s borders every year. Hmm, who knew?

If you can get past the whole heroin/sauerkraut thing though, you should visit the country. Check out bulgariaski.com for more info.
