As the weather cools, cyclocross heats up

Cyclocross has been around in Europe for a long time, but seems to be really exploding in the US over the last decade. A hybrid sport that appeals to both road and mountain bikers, the sport offers a great way to keep biking and racing as the weather makes both mountain biking and road biking too difficult in northern climates. The sport is done on on a loop track usually about 1.5 miles long. The course can consist of paved, dirt, grass, and gravel sections. There are climbs and descents and obstacles, generally not as brutal as found in most mountain bike trails. The goal is to complete as many loops as possible within a given amount of time. These small tracks can be managed in cold and winter months, and the weather can actually add to the fun. Cyclocross is also spectator friendly as on-lookers watch the racers fly by often on the loop. Find a track near you!
