Lindsey Vonn training for Levi at Vail’s Golden Peak

Vail Mountain may only be opening to the public on Friday, November 20, but if you’re two-time overall World Cup champ Lindsey Vonn, the mountain is open now.  Vail’s recent completion of its automated snowmaking system on Golden Peak has provided the perfect training ground for Vonn as she prepares for the World Cup slalom at Levi.

The new snowmaking system has been a boom for teams looking for early season training spots.  Teams from Austria, Germany, Australia and members of the U.S. Ski Team will also be training on Vail Mountain in the coming weeks.

The extra snow will help get the terrain parks up and running much earlier than in seasons past.  “The snowmaking upgrade will also put Vail Mountain in great shape for the 2009-2010 season and we’re looking forward to providing an earlier-than-normal terrain park experience for our guests in Golden Peak, keeping with our commitment to providing a premier ski and snowboard experience for our guests,” said Chris Jarnot, chief operating officer of Vail Mountain and senior vice president of Vail Resorts.
