Based on the report issued by the state inspector general yesterday, it appears South Lake Tahoe kidnap victim Jaycee Lee Dugard is going through the classic Stockholm Syndrome, whereby a kindapped victim feels sympathy and understanding for his/her captor.
When she was first rescued, Jaycee called Phillip Garrido, her alleged kindapper, a great and “changed man” who was “good with her kids”. She was reluctant to provide to the authorities any information that would potentially incriminate Garrido, and she became angry with all the questioning.
Although deep down she may feel some compassion for Garrido, Jaycee’s lawyer has said “Ms. Dugard is fully committed to working with law enforcement to ensure Mr. Garrido is held accountable for his crime”. Hopefully she is able to see that this man must face justice, and that what he did is not something to sympathize with.
