Learn avalanche awareness

The incident in Copper Mountain recently reminded us of how important it is to be avalanche aware. If you’re in the Salt Lake city area this Saturday, we recommend you attend the Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop, inspired by the International Snow Safety Workshop. “This professional development seminar at The Depot in Salt Lake City’s Gateway Center taps into the vast avalanche knowledge found in Utah’s local avalanche community. Attendees will hear about historic avalanche events and new innovations from avalanche forecasters, ski patrollers, snow scientists, Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) avalanche professionals, search & rescue personnel, mountain guides, ski industry manufacturers, backcountry skiers and snowboarders, snowmobilers, avalanche scholars, and more” (First Tracks).

Each presenter will speak for 15 minutes, and then answer your questions. After the workshop, if you’re over 21, enjoy some downtime at the Blue Goose Bar in the Depot from 3-4:30. Got to www.24tix.com for tickets, they cost $25. It’s well worth the money. Plus, all proceeds go to benefit the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center which supports avalanche forecasting in Utah.

Be safe and educated out there folks!
