Snowboard world cup halfpipe results

It wasn’t a great day for the Americans in Saas-Fee during the second halfpipe competition of the LG FIS Snowboard World Cup. But it was a good day for Torah Bright, and we dig her. A lot. Yesterday, Torah and Japanese rider Kazuhiro Kokubo landed first place finishes for the women and the men, respectively. Kazuhiro finished ahead of France’s Mathieu Crepel and Finland’s Peetu Piiroinen. Behind Torah were Xuetong Cai from China and Sophie Rodriguez from France.

We say it wasn’t a great day for the Americans, but only one competed. X Games silver medalist Kevin Pearce from Vermont finished 12th. Now he and the other members of the U.S. team are getting ready for the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix in Copper Mountain, Colorado on December 12th. That’s an Olympic qualifier.

Here are some quotes from Torah Bright and Kazuhiro Kokubo about their results: “I was so glad that we had a good weather today, it’s much more fun then,” Torah said. “I had to get used to the pipe first, but then I could demonstrate some good runs.”

Kokubo: “I didn’t expect to win here against the strong international riders. But it’s a great feeling and an honor definitely.”
