Former World Cup slalom champion Marlies Schild broke her left leg just over a year ago, before last season’s World Cup opener in Soelden. Now the 28 year-old Austrian ski star is back, and will return to the World Cup circuit on Saturday for the World Cup slalom in Levi, Finland.

Schild was back on skis for the first time this year in July and has slowly yet surely been bringing herself back up to speed. The athlete has won 20 World Cup races and nabbed the 2007 and ’08 World Cup slalom titles along with the 2007 super-combined title.

Schild’s teammate, top skier Kathrin Zettel will sit out Levi due to illness, according to their coach, Herbert Mandl.
