More than a foot of snow could fall on Vail over the next couple of days as locals anticipate the opening of Vail Mountain next week.

A strong ‘winter-like’ storm is forecast to move into the region this evening, and a winter storm warning has been issued through Saturday morning by the National Weather Service. Rain is likely this evening and snow is expected after 11 p.m.

Three to five inches of snow could fall tonight as the winds pick up and temperatures drop into the low 30s, the National Weather Service says. Up to seven inches of snow could fall during the day Friday, when temperatures will remain in the 30s. Friday night will be colder, as snow continues and the low is forecast in the high 20s, the National Weather Service says.

Snow could continue on Saturday and Sunday, the Weather Service says. Vail Mountain opens on Friday.
