The 2009/2010 ski season officially launches for the cross country skiers this weekend in Beitostoelen, Norway. It will be the first World Cup to mark the new year. Athletes from more than 28 countries will be set to race over the course of two days, including the U.S. Ski Team’s top guns.

Last weekend proved successful for the Americans in Norway, as several U.S. Team athletes skied solid races at a FIS event. Kris Freeman finished fifth, twice, just a hair (or two hairs) short of the podium and World Championship silver medalist Kikkan Randall finished fourth.

This weekend will feature  a women’s 10 km and men’s 15km skate race on Saturday with men’s and women’s relays on Sunday. Check back at the Ski Channel for results!
