Silverton Mountain opens midweek skiing in response to Durango Mountain Resort’s lack of it

If you haven’t already read about it, the Durango Mountain ski resort‘s lack of midweek skiing sparked a conflict with a local resident. In response to Durango’s lack of midweek skiing in December, neighboring Silverton Mountain has decided to fill the midweek skiing void. Usually, SIlverton is only open on the weekends during the first two weeks in December, but now, you can ski Silverton Wedensday through Sunday during that time. This will be the first time in its 10 year history that Silverton offers this.

Silverton co-owner Jen Brill said: “The Saturday/Sunday early season schedule at Silverton Mountain was due to lack of demand from hardcore skiers. Even though ski conditions have been spectacular in previous seasons from Thanksgiving on, it has been hard to create enough demand for the skiing at Silverton Mountain in early season. With most local skiers frequenting Purgatory there are simply not enough skiers visiting Silverton Mountain mid-week early season while DMR is also open mid-week.”

Well, this shouldn’t be a problem anymore! Lauren Slaff and others now have a nearby ski area to frequent due to DMR’s midweek closure. It should be interesting to see if Silverton’s business increases significantly…
