Southwest Airlines announces ‘Rather Be Skiing than Working’ contest

We’ve all experienced, or at least heard of, the nightmarish difficulties of flying with ski equipment. Whether it’s the airline losing your bag, or paying the exorbitant amounts of cash to bring your ski bag (US Airways I’m pointing directly at you with your ridiculous $100 charge for ski bags) on your vacation, ski travel has never been more taxing literally and figuratively.

Thankfully, not all airlines are a huge pain in the you know what for skiers to fly. For example, Southwest Airlines has not hopped on the bandwagon of charging for checking bags. To celebrate this policy, Southwest Airlines has launched a contest aimed at rewarding its loyal ski travelers.

To get the word out on Southwest’s “skis fly free” policy, they’re asking you to tell them a reason why “You’d Rather Be Skiing than Working.” Submit your entry to @SouthwestAir via Twitter using the #Skiswa hash tag or in the comments section of this blog post.

If your reason is funny enough to be selected the winner, you will receive two roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines and an ’09 – ’10 EPIC Season Pass from Vail Resorts, which gives you a full season of phenomenal skiing at six of the finest mountains on the planet: Vail, Beaver Creek, Heavenly, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin–with no restrictions and no black-out dates. Southwest Airlines will have a panel of highly-qualified comedians and ski bums select the winner.

You know you’d rather be skiing than sitting at your desk, so let them know why now! Contest ends Sunday, November 22, at 12:00 noon CST.
