Due to ski doping, Russia may face sanctions

Apparently the International Ski Federation is not pleased with the Russian ski federation due to a lack of oversight regarding ski doping scandals. The FIS said the federation and the Olympic committee in the country could face sanctions if any further cases are brought to light.

“We are not happy with what is going on in the Russian (ski) federation,” International Ski Federation president Gian-Franco Kasper said. “A lot of changes have to be made in Russia with fighting doping.”

The conflict started last season, when Russian cross-country skiers Julia Chepalova, Yevgeny Dementiev, Nina Rysina and Natalia Matveeva were banned for two years after they tested positive for EPO, a banned endurance-booster.

Also, earlier this year, three Russian biathletes were suspended by the International Biathlon Union for two years each after they tested positive for EPO during a World Cup event last December in Ostersund, Sweden.
