Squaw Valley opens with J.T. Holmes honoring Shane McConkey

Saturday marked the opening day and the 60th anniversary of Squaw Valley. Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders descended upon the Squaw to enjoy the snow and get some early season turns in.

A friend of the late and great Shane McConkey, J.T. Holmes, honored his friend in style by parachuting from Squaw’s tram and landing in the village (pictured right).

Saturday was a big day for Tahoe-area ski resort openings, as Heavenly, Mt. Rose and Northstar-at-Tahoe also opened up for business.
