Aspen prepares for a massive influx of celebrities

Celebrities frequent many ski areas around the country throughout the ski season, but Aspen is known as the mecca of stardom. So many members of the Academy head to Aspen during Oscar season that Aspen Film started sponsoring Academy Screenings 19 years ago.  The idea is that everyone spends so much time skiing in Aspen, they won’t have enough time to go out and see all the films that may be nominated for awards. Aspen Film tried to remedy that. Now, of course, Academy members can just watch the films they’re voting for on DVD…but it’s always nice to see a flick on the big screen in a theater.

Aspen Film is expecting another large celebrity/Academy member contingent this year, so the Aspen Academy Screenings are again a go. The screenings will be held from December 23rd to January 2nd. Some of the films included are “Brothers”, “The Last Station”, “The Lovely Bones” and “Nine”. Aspen Film has a good streak of picking the films that get Best Picture nominations, like last year when they screened “The Wrestler”, “Gran Torino”, “Revolutionary Road” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”.

Planning an Aspen trip this year? Let us know which celebrities you run into while you’re there!
