Every year around holiday time, Deer Valley Ski Resort’s executive pastry chef, Raymond Lammers, builds a giant gingerbread treat to be displayed in the Main Lodge–and then eaten.

This year, he won’t disappoint, as he’s readying a nine-foot long, four-foot wide and five-foot tall gingerbread Thomas the Train. Sweet. The giant train should be done by early December.

Thomas’ wheels and eyes will move, and his colors will be accurate to the character. He will be composed of 250 pounds of gingerbread and 80 pounds of icing. Chef Lammers expects the project to take 150 hours.

“Each year I try to create a more intricate gingerbread house and this year was no exception. It is a fun tradition for the guests to see year after year, and the culinary team really enjoys the challenge.”
