Olympic Champion Julia Mancuso tenth after first run at Aspen Winternational World Cup, Lindsey Vonn on the rocks

Although the weather at Aspen is clear (compared to last year’s wind which took out the finish), the GS course is tough. World Cup Champion Lindsey Vonn hit a rock on the top half of the Aspen Winternational World Cup race course, spun out away from a gate and struggled the rest of the way down. Vonn’s ski edge was completely trashed, so she had a hard time holding her turns and running fast.

2006 Olympic Champion Julia Mancuso fared better, and is currently sitting in tenth place after the first run. Reigning World GS Champion Kathrin Hoelzl leads the race by four-tenths of a second, with Mancuso about two seconds behind.

The first run results do not determine the final results, but qualify the skiers for the second run, and determine the run order.

Check back at the Ski Channel this afternoon for the final results!
