U.S. Ski Team speed athlete TJ Lanning suffered a terrible crash yesterday on the fastest part of the Lake Louise World Cup downhill course. The Park City native caught an edge, skied through a gate and face planted before spinning off the side of the track.

Lanning was airlifted off the course and eventually transported to a clinic in Banff, Canada. According to U.S. Ski Team Medical Director Richard Quincy, Lanning dislocated his left knee and fractured the C5 vertebra in his neck. He will be transported to the Steadman Hawkins Clinic at the Vail Valley Medical Center, in CO.

Lanning’s season is likely over, but not his promising ski racing career.
