Yesterday marked the start of what promises to be a kick-butt World Cup nordic combined ski season. The event took place in Kuusamo, Finland, and it was the Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis who took the top spot on the podium.

Finnish athlete Hannu Manninen was second, followed by Germany’s Eric Frenzel.

As part of its Olympic year training strategy, the U.S. Ski Team opted out of this round, and they’ll join the nordic combined circuit in Norway next week.
