Attention all Utah backcountry skiers! When you venture out into the backcountry, do you know your elements to the best of your ability? Do you know that the number of avalanche victims in Utah and around the country has risen in the past couple season? Apparently, people are not getting their fill of avalanche education. That’s why the Utah Avalanche Center is hosting a couple of free avalanche awareness classes for all you folks who know you need to know more.

The 50-minute class is called “Know Before You Go”, and It will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 3rd at Canyon Sports’ Cottonwood location (1844 E. Fort Union Blvd.), and again near Ogden at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 10th at Canyon Sports in Riverdale (4598 S. 700 W.).

If you need another reason to go, you’re also invited to Canyon Sports’ second Annual BREW*SKI, a ski season kick off party to benefit the Utah Avalanche Center. Some of Salt Lake’s greatest restaurants provide the food and drinks, and there will also be door prizes. Admission is free, although donations would be lovely. The party will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 4th at the Canyon Sports Cottonwood location.
