I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and help them lead the way. Oh man, sometimes even my own poetry makes me weep…oh wait, nevermind, that’s a song. Crap. Anywho, kids are in the spotlight for the 2010 Freeskiing Tour. It went so well last year, Mountain Sports International (MSI), the International Free Skiing Association (IFSA), and The Mountain Challenge decided to do it again this year.

Kids ages 12-17 (ok i guess they aren’t really kids) are invited to register, and registration opens on December 14th at 10 AM Mountain time.

Here’s what Rob Greener, Freeride Team Head Coach at Utah’s Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort had to say: “I am really happy with the direction junior big mountain freeskiing is going in, the JFT is helping legitimize the sport of junior big mountain skiing and it is giving junior athletes long term goals to work towards. Junior athletes are skiing at such a high level that there is no better time to create a cohesive Junior Freeskiing Tour than now,” said Greener. “The creation of the JFT will help legitimize junior athletes’ involvement in the sport of freeskiing and help them prepare for the Freesking World Tour. There is no doubt the JFT will be the breeding ground of future freeskiing stars and heavy hitters of the big screen.”

And let’s also hear from IFSA president and head judge, Jim Jack: “The Junior Freeskiing Tour will help prepare and educate tomorrow’s freeksiers to be strong, calculated big mountain skiers. By skiing with other young athletes they learn new techniques and sharpen their skills. The IFSA looks to promote the education of skiing and mountain sense to these young skiers while providing opportunities for them to compete in one of the most progressive and exciting events in the sport.”

The first stop on the tour is Crested Butte, Colo., Feb. 17-18, 2010. Next stop will be Kirkwood, Calif. for the North American Junior Freeskiing Championships (dates TBA) before moving north to Big Sky, Mont. for the Lone Peak Freeskiing Open, Mar. 5-7, 2009. Then it’s off to Utah for the U.S. Junior Freeskiing Nationals, Mar. 13-14, 2010, and up to Wyoming for the Targhee Tee-Off at Grand Targhee, Mar. 20-21, 2010. The tour concludes with the Silver King Junior Freeskiing Championships at Crystal Mountain, Wash., Mar. 31-Apr. 4, 2010.
