Junior Freeskiing Tour to embark on second competition season

Well it sure is a good day to be a young skiing prodigy, as not only does one have several chances to become a K2 Grom Team member, but also has the opportunity to register for the Junior Freeskiing Tour. The Junior Freeskiing Tour (JFT) is the premier big-mountain freeride event in existence today for young skiers.

Similar in design to its adult cousin, The Freeskiing World Tour (FWT), the JFT is a multiple  stop big-mountain competition series. At each event stop, young competitors can accumulate points for finishes in the range of 1-15 place. The athlete who has racked up the most points at the end of the tour will be crowned as the overall champion during the tour championship held at Crystal Mountain, WA.

The competition series is open to both men and women ages 12-17, with two age brackets making up the competition field, 12-14 and 15-17.

“The creation of the JFT will help legitimize junior athletes’ involvement in the sport of freeskiing and help them prepare for the Freesking World Tour. There is no doubt the JFT will be the breeding ground of future freeskiing stars and heavy hitters of the big screen,” said Snowbird Freeride Head Coach Rob Greener.

The JFT will mimic the FWT, as each JFT event is sanctioned by the International Free Skiers Association (IFSA), providing credible consistent judging and accumulative points standings throughout the competitive season.

Registration for the Junior Freeskiing Tour will be open by December 14th 2009 at 10:00am Mountain Time.
