Snow doctor diagnoses snow in the Sierras next week

The Snow Doctor, aka Augustin Diaz, a meteorologist at CustomWeather, is predicting a series of storms to hit the Sierras next week. Here’s exactly what he had to say:

It looks like the El Nino pattern that has been talked about for the last few months will finally take shape sometime next week. Nearly two weeks ago the long range ensemble forecast models began hinting that the jet stream would be become active over our area. The models are now forecasting that the remnants of super Typhoon Nida and tropical rainfall over Southeast Asia will get entrained into the jet stream, setting up a wet and windy pattern over Northern California.

This is still a week away so the specifics are yet to be determined. It’s also possible that the models will forecast the bulk of the rain to head north or south of us, but we’ll have a better idea by this weekend.

Most likely though we’ll be getting wet, with lots of snow in the Sierras!”
