Taking cue from skiers, Artest boozed it up at halftime

Halftime.  A much more defined concept for timed sports like basketball and football.  But for skiing, what is halftime?  I’d say it’s when the legs are just beginning to tire.  For me, that’s around 2:30.  And what’s the best recharge for tired afternoon legs?  Fruit, a Power Bar, Gatorade?  Nope.  For many skiers like me, it’s booze!  One Irish Car Bomb please and it’s back on the mountain.  Wow, my legs feel gooood.

Ron Artest, the always interesting and quotable LA Lakers forward, admitted to The Sporting News that he would drink Hennessy at halftime of basketball games.  “I used to drink Hennessy … at halftime.  “I [kept it] in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store and get it.”

In my youth, I was big on hoops.  My genetic makeup was not however.  But, I did play through high school.  Shooting a basketball with an alcohol buzz sounds quite impossible to me, that is, if the goal is make the shot.  I’m sure Beer Pong could be adapted to Beer Hoop, but in the ultra-competive NBA, the thought of someone drinking Hennessy at halftime is…  Ah, it’s just Ron Ron being Ron Ron.

Hey kids, want to play in the NBA?  Drink your Hennessy!
