After 11 hours of deliberation today, an Italian jury has found American student Amanda Knox guilty of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher.

Knox had been studying abroad in Italy in 2007, and the jury said today that they believe she, her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and another man Rudy Guede, all took part in a devious sexual game that resulted in the slitting of Kercher’s throat, thus killing her.

Yesterday, Knox took the stand and had this to say: “They say that I am calm. I am not calm. I fear to lose myself, to have the mask of the killer forced upon me. I fear to be defined as someone I am not.”

The Defense argued that the knife submitted as evidence did not match the wounds on Kercher’s body. Apparently this was not enough to convince the jury.

Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, and Sollecito 25.
