Theft and ski pass fraud increase in Vail

Apparently more folks are trying to ski and snowboard for free this year compared to last year in Vail. From January 1st 2009 to December 3rd, police have confirmed 188 cases of skiers using stolen passes or passes belonging to others. That marks an 82% increase from last year—and last year’s numbers were double the previous year’s!

Vail officials plan to crack down on the ski-pass fraud this season. They are working harder to train staff more extensively on recognizing phoney passes.

There are also reports of ski and snowboard theft; that figure is set to double what it was in 2006.

Given the current economic condition around here, these trends are not overly surprising.
