Mitt Romney was announced as the keynote speaker for the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) National Convention & Tradeshow being held May 2-5 in Championsgate, FL.

The former Massachusetts governor and possible 2012 Republican presidential nominee, will address the ski area owners and operators with his unique ski industry perspective.

Romney not only has quite the distinguished political background, but has been involved in a range of relevant ski industry dealings. Governor Romney successfully organized and guided the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, UT. When Romney was brought on board to direct the event, those Olympic Games were facing a daunting $379 million budget shortfall.

However, using the same business sense that brought him success at his previous companies such as private equity firm, Bain Capital, Romney was able to erase the massive deficit, and ultimately gain a $100 million profit.

NSAA President Michael Berry said, “Not only does [Romney] possess a unique perspective of the ski industry given his work in organizing the Winter Olympics, but we’re confident that Governor Romney’s pro-business, small-government message will resonate with a number of our member ski area owners and operators.”
