This has been the warmest decade since 1850

In a recent report from Britain’s Met Office and the UN World Meteorological Organization, it seems this decade is the warmest one since records began in 1850. Also, 2009 is likely to be the fifth warmest year since then. This report was given at the Copenhagen climate change summit yesterday.

Here’s the statement from the U.K.’s national weather service: “Despite 1998 being the warmest individual year, the last 10 years have clearly been the warmest period in the 160-year record of global surface temperature maintained jointly by the Met Office Hadley Centre and the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia.”

Additionally, Dr. Vicky Pope, head of climate change advice at the Met office, said, “In the last decade we have seen that the temperatures haven’t gone up very much, but they are clearly a lot warmer then they were in the previous decade.”

Are you a long time skier or snowboarder? Have you noticed temperature changes in the last few years and has anything been drastic enough to affect your skiing?
