Rest in peace Guy Lacelle. On Thursday, an avalanche in southwestern Montana took the life of this world renowned ice climber during the Bozeman Ice Festival.

John Irvine is the sports marketing manager for Arc’teryx, ice climbing equipment manufacturer and sponsor of Lacelle. He was quoted as saying the loss of “fanatical ice climber” Lacelle is a “huge, huge loss” to the community.

Lacelle was a foreman for a tree planting company in British Columbia in the summers, and in the winters he ice climbed exclusively.

“He loves climbing and he loves sharing the sport with other people. That’s what his life was all about”.

Cause and manner of death have not yet been determined for Lacelle. He was 54 years old.
