Ski racing has always been a dangerous sport.  But, already this early season, the list of injured skiers, combined with the severity of those injuries, has lead the International Ski Federation (FIS) to investigate reasons why.

“We have now called a meeting with all the coaches, athletes and other involved parties to identify commonalities and to seek practical solutions,” FIS president Gian Franco Kasper said Friday.

The first meeting will take place next week in Val Gardena.

Already ruled out of the upcoming Winter Olympics are (with links to their specific injury situations):
- former women’s overall World Cup champ Nicole Hosp
- World Cup slalom champion Jean-Baptiste Grange
- Downhill World Champion John Kucera
- 2008 U.S. Downhill Champion TJ Lanning
