The lady has a ton of awards, but why not add another? World Champion and two-time Audi FIS Alpine World Cup overall champion Lindsey Vonn (Vail, CO) is definitely worthy! The first lady of skiing is one of 12 elite athletes nominated by the United States Sports Academy as its 2009 Female Athlete of the Year.

The Athlete of the Year ballot stems from the Academy’s yearlong Athlete of the Month program, which recognizes the accomplishments of men and women in sports around the globe.

Voting closes Dec. 24, vote for Vonn today at . You may vote as often as you like.

Vonn has stacked the most World Cup wins of any American female skier, surpassing U.S. great Tamara McKinney’s previous high mark with an amazing 22 wins. She also swept the women’s speed events at the Audi FIS Alpine World Championships with two gold medals. Vonn then wrapped up her season last year with her second consecutive World Cup overall and downhill titles as well as the first super G title awarded to a U.S. woman.
