Croatian slalom champion Ivica Kostelic has knee surgery

Ivica Kostelic is somewhat of a household name in Croatia. The former slalom world champion is definitely a rockstar, but on Sunday he underwent his sixth knee surgery of his career. It went well, and he hopes to compete in the Winter Olympics, but nothing is set in stone. “Ivica’s return to full ski training, and FIS World Cup ski races, is for now hard to predict,” the Croatian ski federation said in a statement. “But his return should follow somewhere in the beginning of January 2010.”

The surgery repaired his right meniscus that he injured in the Val d’Isere super combined last Friday. We hope he makes a fast recovery and can get back on the slopes soon.
