National Guard steps up search for missing climbers on Mount Hood

Today, the search intensified for missing Mount Hood climbers Anthony Vietti and Katie Nolan. Sadly, their climbing partner, Luke T. Gullberg of Des Moines, Washington was found dead on Saturday.

Friends and relatives are hopeful that Anthony and Katie will be found today. “Today is our day”, said Anthony’s aunt Teri Preiss.

The goal for searchers is to get above 10,000 feet before a new storm sets in tonight at the peak. Although avalanche dangers forced crews to remain at lower elevations for now, the Black Hawk helicopter from the Oregon Army National Guard is searching extensively.

Our thoughts go out to the Vietti’s and the Nolans, we hope for the best.
