Search for Mount Hood climbers stalled

Today, whiteouts and inclement weather are preventing search crews on foot and in the air from searching for Katie Nolan and Anthony Vietti.

The search has by no means been abandoned, however there is nothing that can be done until the storm eases. Detective Jim Strovink, spokesman for the search, forecasts the storm may last for a couple of days.

Hope for the missing climbers comes in the form of ice axes. Nolan and Vietti have them, and search leader Steve Rollins said they can use these axes to create a snow cave for shelter. “It’s more like digging with a spoon than a shovel, but if your life is in danger, you can do wonderful things,” Rollins said.

Hope is alive for Katie and Anthony. Stay tuned for updates as they come.
