Ski resort bookings are up this year

Due in large part to the massive amount of discounts every ski resort seems to be offering this season, more Colorado ski resort bookings have been made this year than last year.

“Resorts are having to work hard to move the occupancy needle upward, effectively buying their guests with lower rates,” said industry analyst Ralf Garrison.

In a report analyzing 11 resorts in California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Nevada, findings reported the average room rate at a resort this year is $316 as opposed to last year’s $356. “A resort vacation has never been more affordable than it is this year,” said Bill Tomcich, president of Stay Aspen Snowmass. “It’s a buyers’ marketplace.”

And the buyers are certainly doing their research. “Consumers are pretty savvy, and they’re looking for the best deals they can,” said Bill Wish owski, vice president of the Breckenridge Resort Chamber.

Good job, all you savvy ski resort customers! Way to fight this recession and find some great ski vacation deals. They’re out there!
